ABOUT THE OPEN SOURCE IN ENERGY ACCESS SYMPOSIUM
The Open Source in Energy Access Symposium (OSEAS) is the first global event dedicated to harnessing Open Source technologies to accelerate universal energy access. Co-organized by EnAccess and World Resources Institute (WRI), OSEAS has quickly become a flagship global gathering for open innovation in the energy sector.
The first edition took place in 2024 in Abuja, Nigeria, marking a groundbreaking moment in uniting global stakeholders.
The second edition, hosted in 2025 in Nairobi, Kenya, which drew even greater momentum.
Due to overwhelming demand from participants and partners, OSEAS is now set to become an annual event. The third edition will take place on October 26-27, 2026 in Kigali, Rwanda.
OSEAS 2026 will once again unite global policymakers, entrepreneurs, industry leaders, tech innovators and the Open Source Community to explore challenges, seize opportunities and create synergies. Based on your valued feedback, we’ve enhanced this year’s program with:
Expanded working group sessions
Dedicated poster exhibition space
Product fair
A donor roundtable
An improved hackathon experience
Site visit

A week has passed, and I am still processing all the information from the various sessions, comments, posters, and innovative ideas shared by bright young minds during the hackathons. We could have benefited from three 3-day symposia followed by a site visit. Congratulations to everyone involved; OSEAS 2025 was exceptionally well organized. Cheers to OSEAS 2026!
Emma Laswai, Deputy Executive Secretary Tanzania Renewable Energy Association
After attending OSEAS 2025 and engaging with open source tools and technologies, I was deeply inspired by the possibilities they present in transforming energy access. Witnessing your leadership and contributions to open source applications in Kenya was truly motivating. I am eager to get involved in this journey and be part of advancing open source solutions in rural electrification efforts.
Sao Fidel, REREC
OSEAS2025 was amazing! The energy, innovation, and shared purpose you have described are truly inspiring, proof that open-source collaboration is not just a tool but a movement for equitable energy access.
The work showcased, from Makueni County’s solarized solutions to the lightning-speed innovations of the hackathon, strengthens my belief that together, we can bridge the gap between policy, technology, and community impact. As someone deeply invested in energy modeling, project implementation, and manpower development, I am thrilled by the symposium’s outcomes and eager to contribute to this growing community.
Count me in as a committed ally for the next edition and beyond. I would love to explore how my expertise in data-driven policy design and scalable project management can support OSEAS’s mission. Let us keep the momentum going, because when we combine open tools with open collaboration, change is not just possible; it is inevitable.
